What is Ultimate Frisbee? First off, Ultimate frisbee is not frisbee golf. Ultimate Frisbee, also known as "Ultimate" or just "Ulti", is a continuous-action sport which has been played by almost every kid at some point. It is played in "the quad" at every college in America, at elementary schools in PE and on the playground, there are "pick-up" games, camps, and much more. It is not surprising that under the guidance of "USA Ultimate" Ultimate is the fastest growing sport in America. Ultimate is unique in so many ways -- from its focus on its character-building "Spirit of the Game", its safe "no-contact rules", its emphasis on coed fun, to the fact that it only takes a few kids, a little open space and a $2 piece of plastic which alternately floats gracefully then flies like a laser in the hands of a skilled athlete. Learn the 8 Simple Rules of Ultimate. Ultimate is truly an American sport having been invented in New Jersey about 50 years ago and played competitively at more than 400 American Universities, but it is also an international support played in virtually every country in the world, in both the "turf" and "beach" versions. Unique to Ultimate is its focus on "The Spirit of the Game" which declares that even at the highest levels of worldwide competition players self-regulate by making their own "calls", respect their teammates and opponents equally, avoid contact and injuries all the while playing hard and competitively yet, never losing focus of the paramount goals of sportsmanship and fun. In this way, Ultimate promotes good character, fun and an incredibly athletic workout playing a non-stop action aerobic sport. Ultimate is a "life sport" played by boys and girls from 6 years old and still played for fun and competitively in "Master's tournaments" to age 60 and beyond.
